More Than Three Decades of Quality Translation Services

E ngā iwi o te motu, o te ao, tēnā koutou katoa.

Tokomāpuna Māori Language Services in Upper Hutt, New Zealand is a language firm that provides translation services for the Māori language. For more than 30 years, we have been supporting the government, broadcasting, education, ICT, and health sectors with our expertise.

Tokomāpuna Māori Language Services is led by Piripi Walker, a translator, editor and writer with deep experience working across these sectors.

Our work is built on a simple principle: translation is never just word-for-word. It requires an understanding of context, audience, dialect and tikanga. A phrase that works for one iwi may not be right for another. A technical term needs to be both accurate and natural. A historical document may contain layers of allusion that only careful research can uncover.

We bring that level of care to every job — from a government annual report to a single sentence for a marketing campaign. All our translators are examined and have the national Māori Language Commission Licence. We do not use AI to translate in any way - all work is done by humans who speak Māori. We send all work to a senior qualified checker/editor (with Māori Language Commission licence - examined also) to ensure quality assurance on all projects.
